Nashville Electric Service is slowly turning the power back on across the city. But repairing flood damage to the electric grid will take months.
Two substations in West Nashville, McCrory and West, will be out of commission at least until the end of summer. CEO Decosta Jenkins says homes and businesses in that part of the county will have electricity, but it may be touch and go at times.
“The system will be challenged this summer if we have hot weather.”
Power has been restored to the largest of the downtown businesses affected by outages, like AT&T and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Their smaller neighbors will have electricity once inspectors have determined the wiring is dry and safe.
Statewide, about 33-hundred buildings are thought to be without power. All but a few hundred of those are in Nashville.
