Gun ranges in the Nashville area are looking forward to next weekend, when more than 70,000 people are expected to visit for the National Rifle Association convention. Nashville Armory, near One Hundred Oaks Mall, is preparing for several hundred customers a day during the event.
A handful of people wearing goggles and earmuffs were taking aim in the range at the back of the store on a recent weekday morning.
During a typical weekend, the range usually has a waiting list, says manager Leroy Farris. But this weekend, he’ll even be boosting the number of staff to keep up with demand.
“I have about three people at any one time on the range to work [on] safety, and we’ll probably double that,” he said.
Most of the extra business will come from convention-goers who are looking for a place to shoot. Nashville Armory is also hosting special events, such as a pistol unveiling from gun manufacturer Glock on Thursday.
