The beginning of the end is here for the presidential race. This week, early voting starts in Tennessee. And election officials are bracing for big turnout.
In recent election cycles, turnout in Tennessee has
lagged most of the nation.
But restaurant worker and aspiring comedian Edd Garcia is determined to weigh in. After moving from Clarksville to Nashville, he updated his registration just before last week’s deadline.
“I believe it’s very important to exercise your civic duty and to use your voice to make sure that the country is and our community is being run in a way that I like and is beneficial to me and everybody around me,” Garcia says.
Tennessee hasn’t been closely contested
since Democratic nominee Al Gore lost his home state in 2000.
But there are signs that voters plan to make it to the polls, with record-high registration numbers in Davison County. Several counties in Middle Tennessee have
added early voting locations and extended hours to accommodate potentially large numbers.
Early voting runs from Wednesday through November 3
rd.
