The Nashville Symphony will extend its season-opening concert to a free audience by way of a giant video screen on the Schermerhorn plaza. Guests can watch 27-year-old pianist Lang Lang play Beethoven with the symphony.
At home in China, the gregarious Lang Lang lives the life of a rock star with designer sunglasses, limousines and body guards. He also has a library of videos on youtube of him playing happy birthday for his mother, banging on a piano with an orange and reacting backstage after concerts, like this one in Toronto.
“Today I find something really unique, the rhythm of this fireworks. It’s good. Cool concert.”
The Nashville Symphony’s Alan Bostick says Lang Lang is use to the big screen, so putting the concert on a Jumbotron fit the occasion.
“This just made perfect sense for the Nashville Symphony. Lang Lang is among the hottest classical pianists on earth right now.”
Showing the concert outside for free, Bostick says, opens up the performance to more fans than the 18-hundred who will be inside the Schermerhorn.
