Nashville would be barred from requiring local restaurants to post nutritional information on menus under a bill passed by the state Senate last night.
Memphis Republican Paul Stanley sponsored the bill. He says local boards of health aren’t authorized to impose such restrictions.
“We didn’t have elected bodies making this decision, we had un-elected bodies that were making this determination regarding what restaurants should and shouldn’t do.”
The bill was brought by the restaurant industry after a Metro Board of Health proposal passed that requires calorie information on menus.
The House version of the bill is up before the chamber’s Health Committee today.
