GM announced today 10,000 of its hourly workers would see overtime hours in the coming months because of a recent uptick in sales, primarily from the Cash for Clunkers program.
The automaker’s vice president of manufacturing Tim Lee says the plant in Spring Hill is included in the production boost of roughly 60,000 vehicles.
“This is a very, very broad surge in demand for us across our entire portfolio.”
The 2,200 workers in Spring Hill manufacture the Chevy Traverse, which is a crossover SUV. The plant is still slated to be idled in November when production of the Traverse moves to Michigan.
