A trucking company near Carthage has closed its doors and laid off about 80 workers. K & K Trucking delivered throughout the South and up the east coast.
County Mayor Michael Nesbitt says the closure exacerbates an already sore job market there.
“K & K Trucking has been in Smith County for years and years and years, so it was no doubt not good news to Smith County, which our unemployment rate was already very high anyway, so it just added to that.”
The county, east of Lebanon, posted a 13.1 percent unemployment rate for November, with more than 12 hundred people there looking for jobs.
