Metro Schools and the federal Justice Department have announced a settlement to protect disabled students riding Metro school buses.
That’s after an autistic nine-year-old was raped on an unmonitored school bus by a 19-year-old student with known behavioral problems. It was the second assault on a special-needs student riding a special-education bus in a year.
The child’s family will receive over a million dollars as part of the settlement, which also mandates monitors on all special-education buses, and enhanced screening and investigation processes.
