Speaking in Nashville this weekend, a key Republican questioned the President’s rationale for nominating Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.
Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions gave the keynote message at the Tennessee GOP’s annual fundraising dinner. He’s the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Sessions took issue with a series of comments in which Barack Obama said a judge should show empathy.
“Whatever empathy is, it’s not law. It’s really a bias.”
Sessions is expected to vote against Sotomayor’s confirmation when the committee meets Tuesday, but when asked, he wasn’t willing to say one way or the other. Tennessee senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker both say they are waiting to see what the committee does before announcing how they’ll vote.
