Nashville’s police chief says the city will be in good hands if he leaves Metro for another job. Ronal Serpas is among three final candidates to become police chief in his hometown of New Orleans.
Serpas, who has been chief in Nashville since 2004, says if he’s offered the position in Louisiana, he’ll still have to decide whether to accept it. But he says he’s not worried what would happen to Metro if he were to leave, saying part of his role is preparing future leaders.
“One of the things I’m probably the most proud of is that four of my deputy chiefs since I’ve been chief have gone on to be chiefs of police. … No matter what would cause me to not be chief in Nashville – natural… lottery winner or whatever, I am convinced that this department is in great hands.”
Serpas says he doesn’t think applying for the job in New Orleans will hurt his ability to continue in Nashville if he ends up staying here.
