Anti-Wall Street protesters in Nashville woke up in soggy tents Tuesday morning to news that encampments from New York to Portland did not have such a peaceful night.
Occupiers in Nashville are somewhat protected from arrests by a temporary restraining order that expires next week. Protester Alex Smith says he doesn’t expect state troopers to wait long before moving in.
“It’s just a reminder that we need to get ready because cops are itching. They’re like rabid pit bulls and you’re dangling meat in front of them and they want that meat.”
Other than spending the night outside the state capitol, Smith says Occupiers need to avoid giving troopers another reason to intervene.
Yesterday, charges were dropped against nearly 50 protesters arrested late last month for breaking a curfew at War Memorial Plaza which is now on hold. The state is currently rewriting rules to govern the public space, but going through the official process.
