The Nashville Symphony turned out to be a big winner at the 50th annual Grammy Awards last night.
The Symphony claimed best orchestral performance and best classical album, both for the group’s work on Joan Tower’s album, ‘Made in America.’ The work was commissioned by 65 orchestras from every state in the country and recorded by The Nashville Symphony under the direction of Leonard Slatkin.
Symphony president Alan Valentine says that the two Grammy’s – the group’s first – show Nashville continues to be a leading force in the world of music, even outside the country genre.
Joan Tower has been serving as composer-in-residence at Belmont University this semester. A performance of her work will happen on campus in March.
