Urban Search and Rescue teams are fanning out through Nashville’s most heavily flooded areas today, looking for people still stranded and determining how safe they are following the floods.
Metro Police Chief Ronal Serpas says a total of 100 police and fire officers are starting their efforts in Bordeaux, Bellevue, Neely’s Bend, Antioch, and Pennington Bend. In addition to assisting people they find who may need help, Serpas says the teams will play a key role in assessing the severity of the city’s flood damage.
“We’ll start the complete understanding of what the greater devastation is as the water recedes and we can get in there and look around.”
Officers will inspect structures for safety and use police tape to mark those they consider too dangerous to enter.
