Metro Schools notified employees that run its Community Education Alliance today they will be laid off at the end of the month.
Seven employees manage the programs as part of a joint venture between Metro Schools, Metro Government and private non-profits.
Meg Nugent runs the Nashville Adult Literacy Council.
“It doesn’t mean we’re closing our classes tomorrow, but it puts our entire program at risk.”
Nugent says Community Education has 500 volunteers who tutor 1300 adult learners.
