The former majority leader of the state House of Representatives says she’d be well equipped to create jobs as governor of Tennessee.
And she says she has the experience in workforce development to make that happen.
Kim McMillan, who now teaches political science at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, says she’s already played several roles in job creation. She says Austin Peay’s commitment to training skilled workers helped lure Hemlock Semiconductor to build a billion-dollar facility in Clarksville.
And she says she helped implement a program retraining young soldiers at Fort Campbell about to reenter the civilian workforce.
“We actually have an education building on the premises of a military installation which works with providing that training for those soldiers who are coming out, and for their spouses, and for others right there on that facility.”
McMillan says that program includes degrees in nursing and physical therapy. And she’d like to see similar retraining programs for workers across the state.
