Parents got to know Dr. Doris McEwen last night as part of the second round of director interviews for Metro Schools.
McEwen formerly led a 13,000 student district in Washington state. She says the same plan used to lead a small district applies to one with 75,000. McEwen says she’s not scared of a potential state takeover of the district for failing to meet No Child Left Behind standards.
“I don’t think people will come in and say, well, she has this plan. Let’s just throw it out.”
McEwen says if a plan of action has the support of the school board and city and state officials, everyone can work together.
McEwen toured the system yesterday and spent last night in a second, in-depth interview with the Metro school board. Former Chattanooga schools superintendent Jesse Register does the same today.
Hear Dr. McEwen give the full explanation of why she wants to head a district in restructuring status with the state.
