Mayor Karl Dean says his first list of construction projects reflects his administration’s priorities to fund items benefiting citizens, not Metro Departments.
Dean didn’t get to fund any projects last year because of uncertainty in the bond market. This year’s list totals $560 million after Dean removed about $110 million in projects approved by past administrations and Councils.
Dean says most of those relate to Metro Departments.
“Most of the things are projects that will not, in our opinion, directly benefit the public or they’re projects we’ve found other ways to fund. For instance we’re de-authorizing the money for the renovation of the Lentz Public Health facility.”
Dean says the city may swap land with the Hospital Corporation of America in return for a new public health center. Dean does want to fund replacement buildings for school portables and has set aside planning money for two new police precincts and a corridor for 28th avenue to improve access between North and West Nashville. He also firmly committed to the East Bank of the river. The plan has $30 million for redevelopment projects including an adventure playground to be built near the Titans’ stadium.
The full list of projects will be released tomorrow.
