A Nashville woman remembered for her life of service to the needy and for being the city’s first female fire-department worker will be honored this afternoon with a new historical marker just north of downtown.
Mary Catherine Strobel joined the Fire Department in 1948, after the death of her husband, a dispatcher. Strobel’s son Charlie built on her legacy, sheltering homeless people with Room In The Inn. Mary Catherine Strobel was murdered 26 years ago by an escaped mental patient.
The historical marker’s dedication is set for 4 o’clock in the Germantown neighborhood on 7th Avenue.
