The city of Lebanon is expanding its green-ways thanks to a 700-thousand dollar federal grant.
The current Cedar City trail system ends at the new Commuter Rail Depot that’s being built. The grant will add an additional 58-hundred feet of sidewalks that will run from the depot to Cumberland University. It will also fund an additional 33-hundred feet of trails for cyclists and pedestrians in the other direction.
Billy Goodman lives within a mile of the trail system. He says the expansion is welcomed, because by three or four o’clock in the afternoon the current trails are packed.
“As a matter of fact during the summer, the middle of summer, it’s hard to find parking over a the park. People will be using this trail going in and out of there. And right now, how they have the trail set up, there are areas all over town where you can go without having to cross roads, without having to cross major intersections or highways.”
In a written statement, city officials said the trail expansion will directly or indirectly benefit nearly 40-thousand people.
