Despite days where air conditioners and electric fans seem to run nonstop, the Tennessee Valley Authority says this summer’s heat hasn’t been too much of a strain on the electric grid, so far.
You probably judge the summer’s intensity by numbers on a thermometer, but utility officials look at how much power customers try to draw all at once. TVA spokesman Scott Brooks says the only difference they’ve seen this summer is in the timing.
“We usually don’t see peaks for an extended period of time the way we have the last month or two until August. So it’s maybe a little earlier this year, if anything, but the day to day demands and the day to day peaks are not out of line for summer.”
The question now is how long that will be the case. Weather forecasters say another heat wave is already moving into the region.
