Fort Campbell Loses Young Officer in Afghanistan

A newly commissioned officer stationed at Fort Campbell was killed Sunday on patrol in eastern Afghanistan. 2nd Lt. Michael McGahan’s unit came under small arms fire near the Pakistani border in Nangarhar province.

McGahan was a combat engineer with the 1st Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division. The 23-year-old Orlando-native is the division’s 7th casualty this year. He’s survived by his wife and parents.

This year, nearly 20,000 soldiers from Fort Campbell will deploy to Afghanistan.
