The latest ad for the Dodge Charger targets one of its four-door competitors–the Volkswagen Passat, built in Chattanooga.
The commercial begins with a swirl of dust on a dirt road. Slowly, a dust-covered Charger emerges, doing donuts in slow motion. 10 seconds later, we hear a young-voiced announcer.
It’s just one in a series of commercials for Dodge. The ad agency behind the campaign says it’s aimed at young men with a passion for driving uniquely American cars.
Volkswagen’s not offended by the ad. In fact, a spokesman for the German automaker told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that they consider it “free PR.” Sales of the Tennessee-built Passat were down 16 percent in November.
