Congressman Lincoln Davis is giving himself a few more months to decide whether or not to run for governor.
He’s one of two democrats openly eyeing the office. The other is Kim McMillan, who was Majority Leader in the state house for four years. On the GOP side, Congressman Zach Wamp says he’ll enter the election, but only if former US Senator Bill Frist does not.
In the meantime, Davis has an opportunity to make his mark as the newest member of powerful House Appropriations Committee. Davis says he sees the position as an opportunity to secure valuable resources for the state–within reason.
“We have to have some spending programs to start building back America’s infrastructure, but after that happens as we start through the budget process for the next several years, we’ve got to start reversing the huge, the unbelievably huge deficit spending each year that we’ve been engaged in.”
Subcommittee assignments haven’t been made yet, but Davis hopes to be on the panels that determine defense and energy spending.
