Tennessee Congressman Lincoln Davis says “everything’s on the table” when it comes to proposed healthcare overhaul. Davis spoke Tuesday in Winchester as part of a series of townhall meetings with constituents.
Davis spoke to a crowd of several hundred, with dozens overflowing into a hallway to listen. Constituents sometimes interrupted, pushing both for and against the proposed overhaul.
Davis says he probably won’t support a public option, arguing the drive for one appears to be dwindling.
“That may or may not be part of the bill. It is my understanding that there has been some discussion about the co-op being basically a replacement for the public option – that would become the public option. I don’t know; that’s something we’ll have to look at.”
Some in Congress have suggested non-profit insurance cooperatives owned by the people they insure as an alternative to a government plan.
Leslie Lytle wasn’t impressed by Davis’s responses.
“I think that he avoided the issue the majority of the time, and didn’t answer most of the really pointed questions. And then also he seemed not well informed on the bill, which was a little bit disappointing to me.”
The meeting in Winchester was the first of seven Davis is holding through early next week.
