Congressman Lincoln Davis says he will run for another term representing Tennessee’s 4th Congressional District. He made the announcement Monday.
The area Davis represents includes suburbs south of Nashville and swings to the east like the letter “J” north up the Cumberland Plateau.
In a statement, Davis said he considers himself one of the most independent members of Congress and wants to continue serving in the post he’s held since 2003.
“I analyze the issues based on their merit and take positions because they are right for my district and not either political party.”
As a Democrat, Davis has broken with the party at times with his opposition to abortion and support of gun rights.
Davis is also a member of the Blue Dog Coalition of fiscal conservatives. Two other Blue Dog Democrats in Tennessee, Bart Gordon and John Tanner, have announced their retirements in recent months as Republicans gain footing in their districts.
At least two Republicans are vying to challenge Lincoln Davis. Physician Scott DesJarlais [day-jar-LAY] and former congressional aide Jack Bailey have both announced they are running for the seat.
