The Metro Councilman representing a north Nashville district slated for the largest Habitat for Humanity neighborhood ever built is doing all he can to stop it.
Tomorrow night councilman Frank Harrison will introduce two bills to keep Park Preserve from being built.
Harrison has tried to block the development for months. He argues the low-income housing –- built by Habitat and sold to struggling families through no-interest loans –- would bring down property values in the area.
“Habitat would be an improvement if it were in an area that was on decline, but this is not an area that’s in decline.”?
Also, two other all-Habitat neighborhoods have already been built in the same zip code -– 37207. Harrison says another neighborhood would be one too many.
The Metro Planning Commission approved Habitat’s plans for the neighborhood late last year. Harrison’s bills are designed to undo the zoning that allows as many as 400 homes to be built on the Ewing Drive site.
