A Metro councilman says a law to keep concert flyers from covering telephone poles isn’t being enforced; he wants that to change.
The law levies a $50 fine for each flyer, and can hit bands, promoters or venues. It’s been on the books for months, but Councilman Charlie Tygard says it doesn’t seem to be enforced.
“The illegal sign problem on utility poles and other public right of way, especially in the college part of town, has gotten worse instead of better. And these are sign blight, and they’re not maintained, and they’re costing you and me as taxpayers money.”
After the holidays, Tygard says he’ll request a report from Metro Codes on the extent of enforcement. He says if codes inspectors aren’t issuing citations, he’ll turn to the police.
