The US House today overwhelmingly supported Nashville Democrat Jim Cooper’s Improving Accountability Act.
The bill focuses on the nation’s Inspectors General, who are charged with rooting out waste and fraud. Its goal is to reduce political pressure on the watchdogs by making them more independent of department heads. At the same time, it sets out to increase accountability and specifies grounds for firing an Inspector General.
The bill passed by a vote of 404 to 11. All of Tennessee’s delegation supported the measure.
