Former Congressman Bob Clement and former Metro Legal Director Karl Dean top the list of second quarter fundraising results for the Nashville mayoral race.
Clement announced yesterday he’s raised 1.25 million dollars and Dean said today he’s raised 850-thousand as of June 30th. Dean loaned his campaign 325-thousand dollars of his own money this quarter, adding to the 50-thousand he donated in January.
At-large Councilmen David Briley and Buck Dozier have both raised about half-a-million dollars through June 30th. Briley also loaned his campaign about 100-thousand dollars.
Political analyst Pat Nolan says candidates will need significant amounts of money to catch voters’ attention on television in the waning weeks of the race.
“To some voters it’s like they don’t really exist. They have to understand intellectually they’re candidates and they’re in a race, but the race doesn’t become real to a lot of voters until that time it seems to have some sort of validating influence.”
Vice Mayor Howard Gentry has raised 333-thousand as of June 30th.
Gentry also released his economic development platform today. He says he wants to be Nashville’s chief salesman to convince more companies to move to the city, as well as encouraging home-grown businesses.
