Flooding continues today in the Chattanooga area.
Hamilton County emergency officials asked for help from neighboring communities to evacuate a retirement home that houses more than hundred people as well as several hotels and apartment complexes. Water rescuers have pulled several people from cars trapped on flooded streets. Officials have not yet found a man who disappeared into an underground culvert on Sunday.
The Tennessee River and a tributary called Chickamauga Creek are expected to crest Tuesday evening. Forecasters predict river levels will reach a near-record depth of just over 28 feet.
