Some state lawmakers have complained transportation projects set for stimulus money aren’t in every part of the state. Governor Phil Bredesen says that wasn’t the requirement.
Bredesen says the Obama Administration asked for a list of “shovel-ready” projects.
“It was not a list to be fair to every county or every region of the state. It was a list of the projects that were ready to go.”
Bredesen says the half a billion dollars in stimulus money to fund those projects has no flexibility built in. But he says he plans to ask for some leeway. If approved, Bredesen says he’d ensure counties especially hard hit by unemployment get a project or two.
