After concluding his annual budget hearings, Governor Phil Bredesen says all cuts proposed by his department heads remain on the table – even the dramatic.
Bredesen is hesitant to make any budget items off limits, though he says there are some cuts he’d rather not see happen.
“In the department of Mental Health, removing those emergency services for basically all adults in the state of Tennessee would be a very, very tough thing to do. That was more dramatic than I thought they would come up with, for example.”
Bredesen says he’s very concerned about the proposed cuts to TennCare because many will require approval in Washington. One involves capping coverage for many patients at $10,000 a year.
