As Washington lurches toward a final decision on healthcare overhaul, Tennessee Congressman Marsha Blackburn is digging in her heels in opposition. And she says if Congress does pass the bill, some states still won’t go along.
Blackburn, a Brentwood Republican, held a telephone conference with constituents yesterday. Most callers supported her stance against the overhaul, which she called “unconscionable.”
Blackburn says if the healthcare bill passes Congress, other fights will follow, like in Virginia, where a new state law opts out of the overhaul.
“I know that you’re going to see other states take up very similar legislation. Also what would happen if they pass this, then the push is going to be to repeal the bill.”
Last month Tennessee’s senate passed a bill challenging any federal law that would require health insurance, but the state house is still working on its version.
