The Occupy Wall Street movement expanded into downtown Nashville today with more than a hundred protestors decrying what they see as the abuses of rich corporations.
“Ignore us at your own peril! For we are the people! We are the 99 percent! And it is only through us! That you have any power at all!”
A largely college-age crowd turned out at Nashville’s legislative plaza, many chanting, some waving signs and a few wearing costumes. Student Gina Wills and a carload of friends drove in from Murfreesboro. Wills says she usually doesn’t usually take part in activism, but the movement is spreading:
“One of my teachers mentioned what was going on on Wall Street in class and so I started looking at it and I was like ‘this isn’t right.’ And the more I looked on Facebook, I found Occupy Nashville.”
Wills and numerous others stressed in particular the goal of cutting the political influence of corporations.
