Tennessee lawmakers are taking another look at planned budget cuts to the state Department of Children’s Services, which some legislators say were too deep.
Even as state revenues have declined further, Governor Bredesen has said he would like to reduce the impact on Children’s Services. Budget director Bill Bradley told the Senate Budget Subcommittee to expect changes in the planned cuts to the department.
“We intend in our amendment to the appropriation bill to address the concern about the Relative Caregiver Program on a recurring basis, and to the Group Homes program, and some other matters as to Children’s Services.”
The Relative Caregiver program is to keep children not living with their parents from entering state custody.
The administration will brief legislators on the revision Wednesday morning.
