An otherwise disappointing year for Nashville area home sales ended on a high note.
Nearly thirty percent more homes were sold in the fourth quarter of 2009 than in the same period of the year before, according to figures from the Greater Nashville Association of Realtors. Still, the overall year’s sales lagged behind 2008 by more than 12 percent.
GNAR President Lucy Smith says the end-of-the-year uptick is due in large part to the first-time homebuyer tax credit. In November, the credit was expanded to include more buyers and the deadline was extended to cover home sales that close by June 30th of this year.
At the end of the year, the median sales price for a single family home was 164-thousand dollars, up slightly from a year before.
