This summer, the 101st Airborne Division will be reunited in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense today announced plans to deploy the 4th Brigade later this year. The 3,400 member team, nicknamed “Currahee,” was in that country in 2008 and again in 2009.
Once the 4th Brigade deploys, all of the ground troops of the 101st will be in Afghanistan, including the division’s commander.
That will leave about 10,000 soldiers at Fort Campbell, including a rear detachment team charged with maintaining day-to-day functions at the post.
