The Tennessee Board of Regents meets this morning to discuss deep budget cuts to state universities.
The board is considering sweeping changes to its personnel policy, including unpaid furloughs for professors.
MTSU Faculty Senate President Alfred Lutz says the shrinking budget is bad news not just for students and faculty, but alumni as well.
“So if you have an MTSU degree, for example – and over and over and over again MTSU is being attacked; fundamental changes are being proposed, most of which are damaging – what actually happens is that if you earned your degree at MTSU, that degree has just been devalued.”
Lutz says the TBR won’t act on a controversial draft on boosting faculty productivity circulated last month.

The board may also change its tuition structure so full-time students pay per credit hour.
