PricewaterhouseCoopers says it is working with the U.S. Secret Service after reports of Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney’s tax returns being stolen from the accounting firm’s Franklin office.
PricewaterhouseCoopers says in a statement “at this time, there is no evidence of unauthorized access to our data.”
As first reported by the Nashville City Paper, the Franklin offices of the Democratic and Republican parties each received a letter along with a flash drive that supposedly contains candidate Mitt Romney’s tax forms.
The Secret Service has now confiscated the material, which appears to be isolated to Williamson County. A spokesman in Washington D.C. says the agency is “investigating the incident” but had no further comment.
The Republican Presidential nominee has refused to make public more than a couple years-worth of returns. Hackers are demanding a million dollar payoff to prevent the information from going public.
